Arctic Fox

The Arctic fox is also known as snow fox, white fox or polar fox. They are well adapted for their cold harsh weather of the arctic. Among its adaptation for cold survival are its deep, thick fur. They measure upto 25-30 cm. They weighs upto 6-10 pounds. During winter they are white in color while they appear brownish grey in summer. They have such keen hearing that they can precisely locate the position of the prey under the snow.
Mating occurs in early march and early april. Gestation last 52 days.
They depend upon small mammals, including lemmings and tundra voles. They have very warm furs that can be used for clothing or trading purpose. The conservation status of the species is good, except for the Scandinavian mainland population.
